Week 4 - Visual Elements

The 5 elements made by artist Nina Guzman she used a combination of acrylic paint, paper, canvas and pens in what made in 20 the century but was displayed on march 2016. The way i describe it as a world that is unbalanced with different elements crashing down where it was peaceful but now turn down hill, the fire means war, rage, destruction honor and temper. air is for peace . free spirit , water is for cool. calm, and freedom. i see elements been used here texture, shapes, pattern and form. i will say its non verbal there a feeling expression  of the image sending message of world existence our chosen element and how everything tense and pure the artist used this image to express her ideas of different elements formation. i like this image because its an example of Chinese culture and the fact that oil the elements are blend towards the earth crust, when i was internet searching i came upon this i was like whoa because it reminded me of a tv series called the avatar how to each tribe explains his elements forms but i will like to more of this similar in moving forward.  references  5 Elements Mixed Media by Nina Guzman - Fine Art America

Week 5 codes

IMG_6124.JPG

This image represent different  contrast text off old news paper and paper fabrics of two ex lovers of different backgrounds and images some visual response there are bright colors being sued such s blue and grey also some dark the texture is very deep and complex. i can also see visual images of their carved faces all black and grey.  The theme of this is about two polar opposite with a contrast of different materials being used newspaper, mirror double images, almost as if the artist is trying to create a article story list.

Cycle 2

Week 6 Representation.

My theme for the representation is on race during the modern days. this was done by an artist called Khadija Mohammadi Saya she used techniques such as texture and made used so old photographs to make it look more ordinary i can see she used  dark bold colors and some texture i i can see a shape as well. She used a herself as her own  self portrait image using old photograph techniques very dark and bright with some fabrics being used in the image. From the story of the image you can see she is praying  above with a a piece of wood ivory placed on top of her neck as deliverance with fire. In terms of facial expression we can see her face she is kind of backing us looking sideways so.

The representation we did in the pervious class  this is to due with race during times of the black period which some went through challenges and past lives. from the facial expressions it seems quite despaired and dismal from the woman's face and body composition. This  picture is speaking and telling us a message in our lives about spiritual grounding after expiring trauma. for the search of what gives meaning to our lives and what we hold into times of despair and life changing challenges. also a fact that oh we identify our physical and imagined bodies. so the artist i identifying of the life she endured during those past times so she created this work to reach out to the world from my own perspective i l kind of like this because our cultural differences and how it reflects how how time and race and endured over the generations i also like the background and techniques being used. My first reaction to this was amused and shocked  how well detailed and the feeling of his image of how it speaks out of wave lengths.

Week 11 contextual Approaches

Ade Adekola piece.jpg

Ade Adekola, The Emperors Cloths Carnival, N.D.

This art piece was done by an artist called Ade Adekola. the title of the his work was called the emperor's cloths carnival. we uses a range of different mixed media techniques with colors to visualize similar  effects on the images perspective. For my understanding of this this is due with cultural referencing and race to the time of changes of our culture how it has evolutive the world we live in these days.  placing an emphasis on the multicultural composition of Britain. As would be expected, the invitation drew three diverse responses.
In Ade Adekola's installation, Reflections, a chair encapsulated by taut-muslin walls beckoned the viewer to sit down amidst a barrage of noise and images. A small device monitored the viewer's pulse while two projectors flashed images of children and media events on the installation's walls and a pulsating, red laser beam indicated changes in the physiological state of the viewer. It was evident that Nigerian architect Adekola has little time for national flags and his installation implied that, in a media saturated world, the identity of an individual is just as likely to be formed through mediated images and events as through geographical or historical circumstance.

Nididi Emefiele  Every day Woman 20th century

This art work done by this artist Ndidi Emefiele she is a comptempary artist / painter she used her own style with a combination of he raised style with large works of art as you see she uses some mixed media technique  she telling as story of daily life of women situations in the salons having parties gossips making friends. For the visual Analysis i can see some bright colors to make the visual effect of image there some black and white images. the reason for this colors are because the women who are black represent black culture of the women and history of everyday life challenges in beauty saloon.

Sougwen Chung a Sepal A petal A thorn Digital. 2021

This work done by Sougwen Chung a Chinese Canadian artist she's into more space human machine interaction features she understand between the extinct of humans and machines systems by exploring the mark by hand and and mark by machine. In terms of colors she uses some saturated colors  and some materials to make it more man making. i can see some space involved due to the black background. The techniques she uses are she explores  mark  made by by hand and the mark made by machine as an approach  to understanding the dynamics of humas and machines. She created this work n in way studying the use Of Ai technology on systems also as part of research with  as cultural leader  at the world economic  forum  in which she has exhibited her work in different countries such as new york, Barcelona, Cambridge, Singapore and London.

For the Visual Analysis i will say she uses for elements such as color texture, line, and some space. in terms of color she uses cool colors and complex to make the image for calm and composed  texture is very vibrant and relaxed  i see there are some space through background image from behind. she did this work in order to explain and expand difference between humas and machines she then uses a three dimensional space to crave the image alive.

Malthusian  2010

Oil on linen

31 × 26 in | 78.7 × 66 cm Kay Jackson

This work created by Kay Jackson a contemporary painter  my theme title over population which is linked to sustainability she sues her expression describing the urban world of overpopulation  which Formulated in the late 18th and early 19th centuries by the English economist and demographer Thomas Robert Malthus. the artist uses cool pure colors such as blue and purple  to make it seem calm and composed and abstract. I see the artist uses textures in his work to make the colors saturated. In terms of non verbal communication the faces aren't clear and we cant see them due to the faces been covered  what we can see is body composition and movement. The way the artist created this work was she explores subjects ranging from climate change to human figures in order to investigate how humans , animals, and natural systems are interdepend and connected in an ever evolving web of life. The role with humans and nature plays a massive part to her work which she focuses on environmental concerns such as global warming pollution effects, and over population.  During the 19th century and she sought to bring attention to these subjects so critical for everyday survival.  She created this work in hope in future to inspire a better stewardship of our common home and to remind us that every action has a ripple effect for better of worse. To add to my analysis this work is very good and i like it because it reminds go the human population growth how it increase interns of numbers in future and also the colors and techniques that she has used to amke it very contrast dn understandable.

Week 14

Bruce-Onobrakpeya-1.jpg

Title- man with two wives A revisit of the sunshine period (1960-1970)

The art work done by  Bruce Onobrakpeya a Nigerian printmaker painter and sculptor his one of the most successful artist of west Africa during the 20th century. His style of work uses stylistic elements such as color , texture, pattern, objects and environment in this painting and also compositions. In terms of colors the artist uses very hot colors like red and yellow  to make the image bright and warm. i can see he sues some patterns and symbols of his work like on the mans rope and  the woman's cloth which represents their culture clothing of marriages. The texture looks very intense and calm as an effect. i can also see some shapes like squares, and rectangles on the woman's dress. The artist created this work in order to experiment different forms in reaction to Nigerian folklore myths and legends.  Most of his works focuses on stylic elements and compositions   derived from traditional festival African sculpture and decorative arts. To another research he was also part of Zaria art Society From which they discussed about him being a professional artist which he then got insipred to shape his perspective of African art  to evolve the supernatural through ambiguous decorations .My analysis of this is about a man with two wives which represent s this generation of a solitary man living with one or two wives and how this life of marriages have in common in this African culture. I really like the work  its very well detailed i also like the face of image how it very bright and no dark tones affecting the space awareness .

Week 15

IMG_6995.jpg

Self in Vain Somi Nwamdu 2018

This work was done by an artist Somi Nwamdu she is a multidisciplinary  artist and art curator who was born in 1993 in Nigerian Benin . She was enamored with the arts from and early age. She had huge interest  with photography and spent years of exploring digital software alongside expressing her creativity through writing, painting, and fashion illustration. In 2016 she graduated from art institute of new York with a degree in fashion design, obtained two degrees in fashion business management and international trade& marketing for fashion industries. and she just completed her MA in Global creative and cultural industries from the school of oriental and African studies.

She drew inspiration from her experiences holding positions in branding creative project management, marketing, and art direction. . She believes in the power of art to uplift unify and inspire people. some of her works has been exhibited in various group exhibitions like LA art fair , New York Art fair, and currently works in the Smithsonian institution museum of art in Washington Dc. Techniques the artist used in this work she explores through visual arts, fashion and digital world to combine all into one medium. The other one the forges cross-cultural ties specifically through the arts. In terms of element she uses color, texture, graphite,  the colors she uses are mostly dimensional colors such as blue, green, and black on mixed media canvas.  In terms of facial expressions she mostly uses herself as her self portrait she looking at us we can see her. The story behind this is she's a vampire at my own veins.  During those times she lived mostly in Nigeria throughout her life before she moved in Britain to explore her works her works have been exhibited through the world  USA, Britain, and so forth. She created this work because the believes in the power of art to uplift and inspire people but biggest reason is to emphasize the significance in building cross-cultural creative ties between Africa and rest of the world. I rely like her work because of abstract feature and dimensional color effect of her braids that what really got my attention.

To add to my analysis i want to compare between two art works i can say from my analysis they both abstract styles. however the second art work uses more of graphite on canvas while the other uses warm colors. For facial expressions we can see both the images faces facing towards us. they are both old generations artist in 19th century. Different techniques look familiar Bu the second work uses more mixed media style type.
